A freight train derailed in Ashland, northern Maine, blocking Route 11 and causing a road closure. The train derailed around 1:30 p.m. due to a suspected frost heave. The road was closed for several hours, but an engine from further south along the tracks moved the derailed train, and the road reopened at approximately 3:30 p.m. Maine Northern Railway officials were present at the scene assessing the situation.
