Study reveals molecular overlaps between ALS and FTLD, suggesting potential shared therapies.

A new study in Cell reveals significant molecular overlaps between amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), two neurological disorders affecting different brain regions and displaying distinct symptoms. Researchers at MIT and the Mayo Clinic tracked RNA expression patterns in postmortem brain samples of 73 donors, revealing potential targets for therapies applicable to both ALS and FTLD. The commonalities between the disorders suggest that treatments for one may also benefit the other.
