Scientists at DZNE develop a blood test to detect rare dementias and neurological diseases using protein biomarkers.
Scientists at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) have developed a blood test to detect rare forms of dementia, such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD), as well as neurological diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, is based on the measurement of certain proteins in the blood, which serve as biomarkers for these conditions. This blood test could aid in disease diagnosis and advance the development of new therapies.
