University of Aberdeen researchers develop TDP-43 aptamer test to detect Motor Neurone Disease before symptoms.
Researchers at the University of Aberdeen have developed a new "game-changing" test called TDP-43 aptamer that can detect Motor Neurone Disease (MND) before symptoms appear. The test identifies damaged cell proteins in brain tissue samples, which are indicators of MND. Early detection of the condition could potentially open the door for more effective treatments and improve patients' quality of life. The research, funded by Target ALS, was published in the journal Acta Neuropathologica.
