Lawyer and author Petina Gappah has retracted and apologized for defamatory statements she made against fellow lawyer and former MP Fadzayi Mahere in 2018. Gappah accused Mahere of using her father's influence to gain admission to the University of Zimbabwe and attempted to steal her boyfriend, leading to a US$1 million lawsuit filed by Mahere.
