Researchers at the USDA's Agricultural Research Service developed an edible antiviral treatment using blue-green algae to protect honey bees from Deformed Wing Virus (DWV) and other viruses. The algae, when mixed into bee food, boost bees' immune systems and suppress DWV infection, improving survival rates. The team filed a patent for the technology and plans to create variations for targeting more bee viruses and pathogens.
