90% of Malaysian honey may be artificial, prompting an industry challenge and Ministry investigation.

A local honey expert in Malaysia has revealed that up to 90% of honey sold in the country may be artificial, posing a significant challenge for the honey industry. Dr. Zulkifli Mustafa, a senior lecturer at Universiti Sains Malaysia, emphasized the need for laboratory tests to identify genuine honey. He also highlighted the benefits of stingless bee honey, which contains various nutrients and can help relieve inflammation and chronic diseases. The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in Malaysia is investigating these claims and has instructed its enforcement officers to obtain further information from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
