Greater Manchester Police officer Joel Hopkins was sacked after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run crash in Golborne, Wigan in July 2022. PC Hopkins was instructed to wait behind a safety barrier while officers assessed the scene for injuries and damage, but ignored their request and made off on foot. In May 2023, he pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident and was disqualified from driving for six months, fined £2,500, and later dismissed without notice for gross misconduct.
