New Mexico Supreme Court grants new trial for day care workers Mary Taylor and Sandi Taylor convicted of child abuse in 2017.

The New Mexico Supreme Court has granted a new trial for two day care workers, Mary Taylor and her adult daughter Sandi Taylor, convicted in 2017 of child abuse involving the death of a 1-year-old girl left in a hot car and the serious injury of another toddler. The court's decision came after it found that the jury was given confusing instructions during the joint trial of the mother and daughter in 2019. The Taylors, who operated a licensed day care center in their home, had been sentenced to 36 years in prison for reckless child abuse but were released from custody in 2020 while they appealed their convictions.
