1st prison sentence in Ireland for gas meter tampering; Cornel and Lina Rostas convicted in Cork District Court.
Gas Networks Ireland welcomed the first prison sentence in Ireland for tampering with a gas meter, as Cornel and Lina Rostas were convicted at Cork District Court under the Energy (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1995. The couple had unlawfully tampered with their gas meter, preventing consumption from being recorded. Gas Networks Ireland, which discovered the illegally tampered gas meter, warned that meter tampering poses a significant risk to life and has detected around 3,000 cases of meter tampering since 2013.
