Ugandan Court of Appeal upheld refusal to register LGBT group Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) due to undesirable name and promoting of criminalized lifestyles.

The Ugandan Court of Appeal has upheld a lower court ruling, refusing to register the LGBT advocacy group, Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG). The court's decision was based on SMUG's name being "undesirable" and that their activities were promoting interests of people whose lifestyles are criminalized under Ugandan laws. Same-sex relations have been illegal in Uganda since the British colonial era, and the country's government enacted a harsh anti-LGBT law in May, outlawing the "promotion" of homosexuality.
