23-year-old Johnte Pouerie of Gulfport, Mississippi has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the 2021 murder of Lazarius Smith and a shooting at the River Chase Apartments. Pouerie pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and aggravated assault in Harrison County Circuit Court. The murder occurred in December 2021, when Smith was found dead near Highway 15 and Posey Bridge Road in Saucier, a known shooting area in Harrison County.
