Massachusetts plans to open a new migrant shelter in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood, funded by a $5M grant, to accommodate 7,500 families reaching shelter capacity.

Massachusetts is planning to open a new migrant shelter in Boston's Fort Point neighborhood, following the state reaching its shelter capacity with 7,500 families in November. The shelter will be set up by the United Way, which received a $5 million grant from the Healey administration last year to fund overflow shelter sites. The shelter at 24 Farnsworth St. will provide temporary overnight accommodation for eligible families and pregnant women and is expected to open as soon as possible, but an exact date has not yet been determined.
