Former Massachusetts prison in Norfolk to be transformed into an emergency shelter for up to 140 homeless families, including those newly arrived from abroad. The Bay State Correctional Center, a decommissioned minimum-security facility, will provide dormitory-style accommodation, bathrooms, showers, a cafeteria, gymnasium, and offices for case management. The site will also offer play areas for children and classroom spaces for ESOL classes, job training, and housing search workshops.
