Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey introduces new recertification rules for migrant families in state-run overflow sites, requiring work authorization, job training, and housing search.
Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has announced new "recertification" rules for migrant families in state-run overflow sites, requiring them to apply for work authorization, job training, and other programs to stay in these temporary shelters. Beginning May 1, families in overflow sites in Chelsea, Cambridge, and Roxbury will need to meet certain requirements, such as submitting job applications, participating in workforce training programs, and searching for housing, to prove they are taking steps to exit the shelter system. The state acknowledges its shelter system is at capacity and cannot continue expanding.
