A new report from Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) warns that the area is at risk due to increased frequency and severity of heat waves and other climate change related events, which could potentially occur every five to 10 years by 2040. The report states that these climate change-related health risks vary across the region and include droughts, wildfire smoke, flooding, storms, and ecosystem changes. The report also touched upon the rising costs of public health as a result of increased extreme heat risks, pushing for more support for vulnerable populations.
