Study predicts US heat-related deaths to triple by mid-century, disproportionately affecting minorities.
A new study by Dr. Sameed Khatana from the University of Pennsylvania predicts that if global warming continues unchecked, annual heat-related deaths in the U.S. could triple by mid-century. The risk will disproportionately affect minority groups: Black Americans may see a 395.7% increase and Hispanic Americans a 537.5% rise, compared to 71% for white Americans. Additionally, climate change may introduce other health threats, including mosquito-borne diseases.
