MoMA returns Marc Chagall's "Over Vitebsk" painting to descendants of pre-Nazi owners, receives $4M.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) has returned Marc Chagall's painting "Over Vitebsk" to the descendants of Jewish gallery owner who owned it before the Nazis stolen it. In return for the artwork, MoMA received $4 million. However, one of the heirs is currently fighting in court with the restitution company that helped them retrieve the painting. The painting was previously owned by a German gallery led by Jewish dealer Francis Matthiessen, who fled Germany in 1933.
