Rivian unveils smaller, cheaper electric SUV R2 on March 7, seeking to expand market share in the $40,000-$60,000 range.

The electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian announced plans to reveal its smaller, cheaper electric SUV, the R2, on March 7. The R2 is expected to retail between $40,000 and $60,000, making it more affordable than the R1S SUV and R1T pickup truck currently being sold. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe mentioned that the R2 would be manufactured at a larger scale than the company's current vehicles. However, the R2's production will not begin before 2026, as Rivian needs to build the factory in Georgia for manufacturing the SUV.
