Tou Thao was convicted of civil rights violations for his role in the death of George Floyd.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the appeal of former Minneapolis police officer Tou Thao. Thao was convicted in 2022 for violating George Floyd's civil rights. He held back a concerned crowd while fellow officers pinned down Floyd, who died. Thao argued that prosecutors failed to prove his actions were willful. He is serving his 3 1/2-year federal and 4 3/4-year state sentences concurrently.
