Calorie labels on menus may worsen eating disorders, new study suggests.

Calorie labels on restaurant menus, meant to combat obesity, may worsen eating disorders. A BMJ Public Health study found that people with eating disorders changed their behavior, avoiding restaurants and focusing excessively on calorie counts. Researchers analyzed 16 studies and called for more research on the labels' impact on eating disorders. While the labels have no significant effect on the general population, they can reinforce harmful behaviors in those already struggling with disordered eating.
