Eight vehicle fires this year in Death Valley, latest due to overheated brakes; driver cited.

A tractor-trailer fire caused by overheated brakes was extinguished on December 29 in Death Valley National Park. This is the eighth vehicle fire this year, with six due to overheated brakes. The driver was cited for driving with a suspended license. Park officials advise heavy vehicle drivers to down-shift on steep grades and let brakes cool by pulling over. Commercial trucks are not recommended on CA-190 and are prohibited on other park roads.
