Former Canadian Foreign Minister admits denying passport to citizen accused of extremist ties, facing lawsuit.

A former Canadian Foreign Minister, Lawrence Cannon, admitted in court that he denied an emergency passport to Abousfian Abdelrazik, a Canadian citizen, in 2009, based on security concerns raised by Canada's intelligence agency, CSIS. Abdelrazik, who was detained in Sudan from 2003 to 2009 on suspicion of extremist ties, is now suing the Canadian government and Cannon, alleging they facilitated his detention and torture. Abdelrazik was eventually returned to Canada in June 2009 following a court ruling that his rights had been violated.
