Germany needs 288,000 foreign workers yearly to avoid a major workforce decline, a report says.

A report by the Bertelsmann Foundation warns that Germany needs around 288,000 foreign workers annually until 2040 to prevent a 10% shrinkage in its workforce due to an aging population. Without these workers, the labor force could drop from 46.4 million to 41.9 million. While recent reforms ease entry for qualified foreigners, a more welcoming culture is needed to attract them, especially in regions like Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt.
