Germany's working-age population is expected to decline by 2% by 2045, according to a forecast released on Wednesday. Though its overall population will grow by 0.9%, the number of people aged 20-67 is set to fall by 2%, while the number of those aged 67 and above will increase by 13.6%. German officials warn that the biggest challenge for the economy will be growth constraints due to a workforce shortage, with 1.57 million jobs currently unfilled.
