Germany faces a severe healthcare worker shortage, with over 47,000 positions unfilled due to an aging population.

Germany's healthcare sector is facing the most severe skilled labor shortage, with about 47,400 positions unfilled from July 2023 to June 2024. The shortage is particularly acute in physiotherapy, healthcare, and nursing staff, with over 11,600, 7,340, and nearly 7,100 vacancies respectively. An aging population driving increased demand for healthcare services is contributing to the strain. Overall, Germany faced a shortage of over 530,000 qualified workers across all industries during the same period.
