Ford to pay up to $165M to U.S. for delayed vehicle recalls and inaccurate info.

Ford Motor Co. will pay up to $165 million to the U.S. government for its slow response in recalling vehicles with faulty rearview cameras and for not providing accurate recall information. This is the second-largest penalty in the NHTSA's 54-year history, after Takata's fine for faulty airbags. Ford must pay $65 million, spend $45 million on compliance, and defer $55 million. An independent third party will oversee the company's recall performance for three years, and Ford will review all recalls from the past three years and improve its data analysis and decision-making process.
