Swiss authorities plan to close nine asylum-seeker centers due to a sharp decline in applications.
Swiss authorities will close nine temporary asylum-seeker centers due to a notable decline in applications, with a 23% drop in August and 40% in September compared to last year. Since 2022, Switzerland has established 36 centers, but only half are occupied. The State Secretariat for Migration does not foresee a significant rise in asylum-seekers in the near future, though the closure decision can be reassessed if arrivals increase.
