High cyanide levels detected in groundwater at Yukon's Eagle Gold mine after June ore containment facility failure.

The Yukon government has detected high cyanide levels in groundwater at the Eagle Gold mine following a June ore containment facility failure that released millions of tonnes of contaminated rock. Other metals, including cobalt, copper, and mercury, were also found. While the mercury poses a low risk of accumulation in wildlife, further environmental protection measures are necessary, including the construction of interception wells. The mine's owner, Victoria Gold, is in receivership.
