A mine disaster in Yukon resulted in elevated mercury levels in a nearby creek following the failure of an ore containment facility in June. While cyanide levels downstream are not deemed unsafe, mercury exceeded water quality objectives in September. The Yukon government is investigating the environmental impact, and the mine's owner, Victoria Gold, is currently in receivership. An independent review of the incident is also in progress.
