Spain becomes world's 4th largest pistachio producer due to drought affecting traditional crops.

Spain has rapidly increased its pistachio farming, becoming the world's fourth-largest producer after the U.S., Iran, and Turkey. The area dedicated to pistachios has expanded nearly five-fold since 2017, reaching 79,000 hectares, due to intense droughts making traditional crops less viable. This shift is driven by rising demand for pistachios, with production expected to grow significantly to meet both domestic and international needs.
