Stellenbosch University researchers identify effective entomopathogenic fungi to control resistant woolly apple aphids.

Researchers at Stellenbosch University in South Africa have identified certain entomopathogenic fungi that effectively control the woolly apple aphid, a major pest to apple trees that has developed resistance to chemical insecticides. Out of six tested species, three showed rapid efficacy in killing the aphids. The team aims to further test these fungi in natural settings and collaborate with local companies to mass-produce them as a sustainable alternative to chemical treatments.
