The Salvation Army has launched the Hilo Overnight Safe Space, a 25-bed outdoor shelter in Hilo, Hawaii, providing overnight accommodations for homeless individuals. Funded by $1 million from the state and $800,000 from Hawaii County, it aims to operate for two years, with potential expansion to 75 beds and parking for vehicles. Additionally, a mobile kitchen, capable of producing 2,500 meals daily, has been introduced to support those using the shelter.
