Program aids 672 Maui fire-displaced individuals by subsidizing host families' expenses.

In the aftermath of the 2023 Maui fires, which displaced 12,000 people and destroyed 1,898 homes, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement launched a unique Host Housing Support Program. This program provided up to $2,000 per month for a year to families who took in displaced loved ones, aiming to keep communities together and ease the housing crisis. The $2.5 million effort supported 672 displaced individuals in 253 households, helping cover additional costs like rent and HOA fees, while preventing strain on temporary housing and supporting the local economy.
