A rare pod of orcas (killer whales) was spotted off Curl Curl Beach in Sydney, chasing a group of humpback whales on August 29th, the first sighting of orcas in Sydney waters since 2018. Whale expert Dr. Vanessa Pirotta noted it is unusual behavior for orcas to be seen in east coast Pacific Ocean waters. The sighting generated excitement among the whale watching community and researchers.
