Scientists at Georgia State University's CHARA Array found large bright and dark spots on Polaris, a larger-than-expected Cepheid variable star.

Scientists at Georgia State University's CHARA Array captured high-resolution images of the North Star, Polaris, revealing large bright and dark spots that change over time. Polaris, a Cepheid variable star, has a heavier mass than previously estimated, and its size is 46 times larger than the Sun, with a diameter of 46 solar diameters. The CHARA Array's observations provide the first glimpse of a Cepheid variable's surface.
