Australian studies suggest traditional paper tests may perform better for younger students with limited computer skills.

43 studies from 18 countries, including Australia, US, Germany, and UK, found that younger students with limited computer skills scored higher on paper-based tests, even for high school students. Computer-based tests may increase cognitive load, particularly for complex questions. The study suggests schools provide extra working time, teach word processing skills, and minimize digital distractions during tests and classwork.
