2nd vandalism act at Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, Chinese graffiti denouncing militarism.
Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, a symbol of Japan's past militarism, experienced its second act of vandalism in three months. The shrine, honoring 2.5 million Japanese military personnel from the late 19th century, including convicted war criminals, has been a source of diplomatic friction with countries such as China and South Korea. The graffiti, in Chinese characters, translates to "Dog toilet shit. Militarism go to hell." A Chinese man was arrested in May for similar actions.
