93-year-old dementia patient dies from ingesting misleadingly packaged laundry detergent tablets.

93-year-old dementia patient Elizabeth Van Der-Drift died after accidentally ingesting laundry detergent tablets that resembled sweets. The packaging's bright colors and similarity to a bag of sweets were noted as a risk to dementia patients and others with cognitive impairment. Assistant coroner Ian Potter warned that existing regulations might not consider the risks to dementia patients and those with cognitive impairment, as they focus primarily on children's safety. Potter sent the warning to the chief executive officer of the Office for Product Safety and Standards, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and the director general of the UK Cleaning Product Industry Association.
