Australia's researchers discover steep-sided hilltops, or mesas, could offer a natural solution for conserving threatened species, providing an alternative to fenced-off safe havens that require constant human input. Preliminary findings from Mount Talaterang in New South Wales showed almost no invasive mammals on top of the mesa, and higher numbers of small native mammals than in the bush below. The research team hopes their findings will spark further interest in testing the potential of mesas as a wilder way of rewilding.
