Hangzhou bans non-essential lighting and suspends light shows to conserve energy during heatwave.

Hangzhou, a Chinese megacity, has imposed a ban on non-essential landscape lighting and suspended all light shows to conserve energy amidst record-breaking heatwaves. Temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F) since August 2 have led to increased demand for electricity and air-conditioning, testing the power grids in the region. Hangzhou and neighboring cities, including Shanghai, are experiencing prolonged high temperatures with forecasters predicting the heat to persist until August 11.
