17-year-old Algerian gymnast Kaylia Nemour made history as the first African to win an Olympic gymnastics medal, taking gold in the women's uneven bars competition at the Paris Olympics. The French-born Nemour, who switched her allegiance to Algeria after a dispute with the French federation, scored 15.700 points to defeat China's Qiu Qiyuan, who took silver. Sunisa Lee of the US secured the bronze, adding to her six Olympic medals and matching the total of Shannon Miller, the second most by an American gymnast.
