Zimbabwe declares General (Retired) Makhethi Ndebele, known as Jack Mpofu, a national hero for his role in the 1967 liberation struggle.

General (Retired) Makhethi Ndebele, known as Jack Mpofu, is declared a national hero in Zimbabwe for his involvement in the liberation struggle from 1967. He was part of the first 200 guerrilla fighters and trained thousands. As a national hero, he will be buried at the National Heroes Acre with President Mnangagwa presiding over the ceremony on August 5, 2024.
