University of Melbourne researchers, funded by Volkswagen, develop RooBadge tech to reduce Australian roadkill, estimated at 10 million animals yearly. The device, fitting into VW badges, emits sounds to scare marsupials off roads in kangaroo hotspots. If successful, Volkswagen will make it available to other carmakers, and it could be adapted to avoid collisions with deer and moose in Europe and North America.
