38-year-old Colin Curtis, who assaulted his then-girlfriend during a vodka-fuelled attack, has avoided prison. Curtis held his girlfriend down, threatening to kill her, at an apartment in Ennis on May 26th. He was sentenced at Ennis Circuit Court to a suspended two-year, six-month term by Judge Francis Comerford, who described the ordeal as "a horrendous assault" causing the victim non-grievous injuries. The judge noted that the incident was an instance of domestic violence.
