1.6 million uninsured working-age adults in 10 states that didn't expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act are stuck in a "coverage gap", earning too much for Medicaid but not enough for financial help on the marketplace. In Alabama and Mississippi, over a quarter of uninsured working-age adults have no affordable pathways to health coverage. Most residents in this coverage gap are people of color.
