FAPA urges IOC to allow Taiwan to compete under its own name, not "Chinese Taipei."
US-based Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA) urges International Olympic Committee (IOC) to let Taiwan compete under its own name, not "Chinese Taipei". FAPA, based in Washington, DC, accuses the use of "Chinese Taipei" since 1984 as a "discriminatory misnomer", claiming it falsely implies Taiwan's connection with China. Taiwan has also had to replace its national flag and anthem due to Chinese pressure.
