Manaaki Whenua releases Hibiscus bur lace bug in Vanuatu to combat invasive Hibiscus bur shrub.
Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research is set to release the first global lace bug species, Hibiscus bur lace bug (Haedus vicarius), in Vanuatu to combat invasive Hibiscus bur (Urena lobata) shrub. Native to Malaysia, the lace bug has shown potential in controlling the invasive weed, which reduces grazing for cattle. This is the 12th natural enemy introduced in Vanuatu to control invasive weeds and is part of the Natural Enemies – Natural Solutions (NENS) project.
