3 live adult coconut rhinoceros beetles have been detected in Hawaii Island's Waikoloa area, indicating breeding. The beetles, invasive and destructive to palms and other plants, were found in traps near a landfill and in Waikoloa. The Hawaii Department of Agriculture is urging residents to check their mulch and green waste for signs of the beetles and report any suspected infestations.
