Taiwan faces large-scale coral bleaching in southern and eastern waters due to prolonged heat wave since June. Local environmentalists report divers have detected bleaching in waters around Kenting, Little Liuqiu, Orchid, and Green islands. When water temperatures exceed 28°C for two weeks, symbiotic algae emit toxins harmful to coral polyps, leading to expulsion and bleached appearance.
